dc.title | An exploratory study of Hong Kong residents' perception of urban park elements in restoration process | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Urbanization is a reality in the world today. Cities expand and push the natural areas at the urban boundary farther away from city centres. This pattern of development conflicts with the commonly found tendency for people to prefer relatively natural environments, which relates to the possibilities they offer for psychological restoration (van den Berg et al., 2007). Facing to the fast-grow development of cities, society become more challenging with stress-related diseases. Parks within the stressed cities, not only act as decorative elements but are likely to become more important as settings for restoration. A well-designed park containing proper landscape elements may serve restoration well, but earlier research on restorative environments does not provide detailed knowledge on the specific components of park that supports restoration. This project is considered to be a continuous study of "Components of small urban parks that predict the possibility for restoration" which compiled by Nordh, Hartig, Hagerhall and Fry in 2009. The results of their studies showed that the restorative quality of a park did not depend only on size, some of small parks had obtained some of highest restorative value ratings in the study. This reveals the possibility of enhancing park design and the elements for better restoration. In this research, we attempt to assess which specific components or landscape elements that are most preferred by the park users during the restorative process. | en_US |
