Abstract: | In the last three decades, because more residential buildings were built, the energy consumptions for residential buildings increase every year. In winter of northern China which has very cold winter, district heating is quite necessary in winter. The energy used for heating takes up majority part of energy consumption in northern China in winter. The energy recovery ventilator system is a kind of air handling unit for recovering energy through exhaust air from indoor environments. At the same time, it could supply fresh air in residential buildings so that the energy consumption for heating could be reduced and indoor air quality is improved. This dissertation presents the results of an analysis of the payment period and analysis for utilizing the energy recovery ventilator system in residential buildings in northern China in winter in order to examine the feasibility of the energy recovery ventilator system in the northern China. A representative city which is located in the northeast of China Harbin and an air handling unit the VMl unit were chosen for this study. For calculating the payback period of the VMl unit, 10 times of experiments were conducted in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for testing the heat exchanged under the outdoor air conditions simulated by a HAVC unit. The results reveal that the higher the temperature difference between the outdoor and indoor air temperature, the more energy could be saved by the energy recovery ventilator system. Based on the experiment results, the functional relationship between the difference between indoor and outdoor air temperatures and the heat exchanged in the VM1 unit was found by the MATLAB software. According to the functions, the total energy saved by the VMl unit for heating in winter if it is used in the city of Harbin was calculated. According to reasonable assumptions the payback period of the VMl unit in the representative city was also evaluated. Moreover, for satisfying the demand of fresh air supply in residential buildings. the VM1 unit should be operated at the "Max" in the three settings of it. Calculation result of the energy recovery is more 24000000 kJ. and the payback period is 4-5 years. The results of the calculations show that the there is high feasibility for using the energy recovery ventilator system in northern China. Lastly, for future study, the researcher suggested that the study should be conducted in the locations which are studied on for drawing more accurate conclusions and more location should be chosen for getting more accurate results. |
