dc.title | An experimental and mathematical study on deposition of fine particles in chamber | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Airborne particulate matter (PM) is one of the major pollutants in indoor environments. Studying the dynamics of the airborne particulate matter especially the fine particles is significant for the indoor air quality (IAQ) investigation. Deposition of fine particles is usually studied by using experimental and mathematical approaches. The present research aims to investigate the deposition distribution of the fine particles (1 um) deposition and distribution under different ventilation rates in a scaled chamber. In addition, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was established to simulate the particle movement under the same condition by using an Eulerian-Lagrangian approach. The results show that ventilation rate has an influence on fine particles (1 um) deposition and distribution indoors. Higher fractional particle concentration can be found on the near-wall floor opposite to air inlet under high ventilation rate conditions. In addition, comparisons were made on the deposition performance between the current aerosol research and previous bioaerosols (Staphylococcus and Micrococcus) studies. The deposition performances of the 1 um aerosol are similar with the results of 1 um bioaerosols. The findings can be applied in developing practical control strategies for indoor air quality. | en_US |
