Abstract: As effective of 20 July 2007, the old EMC directive 89/336/EEC would be repealed. "New approach" for new directive 2004/108/EC adopted by the European Communities (EC) comes into operation. All electronic products, especially for audio-video product sold in EC countries, must comply with the much more stringent EMC directives. This dissertation project on the investigation into the EMC problems associated with an audio-video product (My target product is Micro HIFI system) designed and engineered in the worldwide countries. We would like to achieve the several purposes pass through this case study: 1. To study the most updated EMC directives on the EC market 2. To provide the most updated measurement technique to full fill the CE requirement 3. To analysis common EMC problem appeared in the Audio-video product 4. To share the most updated skill to solve EMC problem. My methodology is simple. First of all, I find out the representative of audio-video product. Secondly, I conduct the performance test and record the result for the representative sample. Then I conduct EMC test and find out the failed test item(s). Next, I find an effective modification method to solve the EMC problem(s). Finally, I should make sure the performance of test samples does not make a big difference which compare with the previous performance test results. This dissertation discusses the analysis and design consideration on four modification cases. This dissertation project is also a good reference for the student to know more about the electromagnetic wave theory of what they have learnt from university.
