dc.title | Analysis of spatial distribution of heavy metal pollution in Hong Kong Island by using an integrated interpolation method | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Spatial interpolation is an analysis tool in GIS technology, and can convert the point map to continuous map. However, when using the spatial interpolation tool to analyze data, most studies ignored some important details in the process of interpolation, such as the selections of subset and interpolation method, which may affect the interpolation accuracy. In this study, 298 soil samples are used to explore the heavy metal pollution in Hong Kong Island. To get a more accurate interpolation result, a new sampling method in selecting subset before interpolation is created and called modified stratified sampling. Furthermore, an integrated interpolation strategy has been proposed which is an integration of the modified stratified sampling with co-kriging interpolation. The integrated interpolation method has been tested by an experimental study, where the accuracy of the interpolated map by the newly proposed interpolation method has increased the accuracy by 20% when compared to the interpolated map from the same data set by using the ordinary kriging. The experimental study also analyzed the required sampling size of the newly proposed integrated interpolation method, the experimental results demonstrated that the sample size has been reduced for 20%, 30% and 40% for Cu, Zn and Pb, respectively when comparing with the sampling size required by ordinary kriging for reaching the same level of interpolation accuracy based on the same sample data set. | en_US |
