| dcterms.abstract | Employee creativity is the building block of organizational creativity. To address employee creativity, understanding individual dispositional styles, individual psychological processes, contextual characteristics, and interactional relationships of these factors in supporting creativity generation is imperative. The present study proposes a cross-level moderated mediating model to examine the integrated mechanism through which team social context of team psychological safety moderates the relationship between mastery orientation and employee creativity. Further, it examines how this joint effect is mediated by employees' creative self-efficacy. Survey data were collected from a sample of 45 research and development (R & D) teams, including 45 supervisors and 192 knowledge workers from a Hong Kong technology company. Results of the hierarchical linear modeling (HLM6) analysis confirmed majority of the hypotheses derived from the proposed model. Specifically, team psychological safety was observed to moderate the relationship between mastery orientation and employee creativity, as well as mastery orientation and creative self-efficacy. Furthermore, creative self-efficacy was observed to mediate the relationship between mastery orientation and employee creativity under high, but not low, team psychological safety condition. Theoretical and managerial implications of these findings, limitations, and future research directions are further discussed. | en_US |
