dcterms.abstract | Researchers of qac resistance genes have often suggested that the problem of worldwide emergence of antiseptic resistance among staphylococcal species is increasing and serious in human medicine. However, research which has empirically documented the link between qac resistance genes and staphylococcal species (S. aureus, S. intermedius and S. pseudintermedius) is scant in veterinary medicine. Therefore, the aim of this project was to explore how qac resistance genes and staphylococcal species are related in veterinary clinics. This research involved an isolation and identification of bacterial species, Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion susceptibility testing, DNA/Plasmid extraction and polymerase chain reaction to identify qac resistant genes. A total of 195 environment samples were collected from 7 environmental sites-examination table surface, floor surface, and drawer surface, door handle, weighing scale and floor / seat of waiting room at each of the 15 veterinary clinics participating in the study. Results of this study showed that the frequently of isolation of qac positive strains in S. pseudintermedius is higher than S. aureus and S. intermedius from environmental samples in veterinary practice. The data analysis was analyzed by chi squared test in order to investigate if there was an association between antibiotic and antiseptic resistance. There were no significant different between presence of both qac resistance genes and methicillin-resistant gene in CPS. To conclude, this study may be important in understanding and assessing environmental hygiene and infection control in veterinary clinics. | en_US |
