dc.title | Illustration of photogrammetry using computer aided design (CAD) software | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Research has revealed that visualization is essential for teaching geometry and orientation of images in photogrammetry and remote sensing. There are also some researches found that education simulation is beneficial in learning, resulting in motivating students in leaning and leading to a deep learning. A simulator is essential and worthwhile to be developed in order to facilitate teaching and learning in photogrammetry. This paper describes the development of a simulator to illustrate the relationship between image and object via collinearity equations by using computer aided design (CAD) software - MicroStation. Several 3D objects are created for realization. The simulator is capable of controlling the camera by taking photograph to those 3D objects at a desired location, at different rotation angles, adjusting the principal distance and defining photo size in order to realize photograph taking. Instant computation is then performed using the collinearity equations and the aforesaid photograph information to project the image coordinates of the 3D objects. Finally the "photograph" is displayed by drawing the resulting image in the simulator using the calculated image coordinates and it is allowed to be exported in digital format. The simulator is possible to be further applied in education simulation in photogrammetry in which students can take part in project planning, taking photograph and performing photogrammetric operations in a photogrammetric project. Evaluation has been conducted to assess the efficiency of the simulator in term of its design and efficiency in learning. The result showed that the simulator efficiently assists students in learning photogrammetry and at the same time arouses their interest in studying the subject. | en_US |
