dcterms.abstract | Background: Hypertension is a clinical syndrome of continuous elevated arterial pressure. Tissue remodeling of blood vessel is one underlying mechanism responsible for hypertension. Previous researches have suggested that the augmented Endothelin-1 (ET-1) synthesis and expression could involve in vascular remodeling of hypertension. In hypotension, media and adventitia thickness of blood vessel wall are decreased. However, the relationship between ET-1 expression and the raising or lowering of blood pressures is unclear. Objective: To reveal the quantitative relationship between raising or lowering blood pressures and the changes of ET-1 expression by western blot technique. Methodology: In this study, rat's abdominal aorta was clamped to create the raising and lowering of blood pressures. The protein expressions of ET-1 were examined by western blot quantitatively. Finally, a mathematical model was developed to depict quantitative relationship between blood pressure and ET-1. Results: The protein expressions of ET-1 were increased over 20 days in response to elevated blood pressure (P<0.05) and decreased among abdominal aorta samples under the condition of lowering blood pressure (P<0.05). The overall protein expression of ET-1 in rising pressure part was augmented compared with the one in lower pressure part (P<0.05). Conclusion: ET-1 expression is augmented in the state of elevated blood pressure, while ET-1 expression is reduced in response to the lowering of blood pressure. The protein expression of ET-1 is parallel with blood pressure. | en_US |
