dc.title | Solar hot water heating for residential buildings | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Vacuum-tube heat pipes solar water-heating (VTHP-SWH) systems may solve the hot water supply problem for high-rise residential bUildings. This aims and objectives of this project are to investigate the potential application of solar hot water integrated on vertical facades of high-rise building. This dissertation employed two models to investigate the feasibility for making use of the VTHP-SWH of high-rise buildings for domestic solar water heating, both in technical and financial aspects. One model is set as a case study to simulate the operating performance of a VTHP-SWH system in Tianjin. The other is an experimental model to verify the performance a VTHP-SWH system on the top of Hong Kong Community College. By calculating Savings-to-Investment Ratio (SIR) and Simple Payback Period (SPB), these results indicate that the VTHP-SWH system is cost effective and should be widely applied. Based on these cogent analyses, this paper can provide scientific basis for the government-based management and decision agencies to use solar energy for hot water production in urban areas. | en_US |
