dcterms.abstract | The application of the induction motor is becoming more and more popular in the driving industry largely due to the fact that low cost, highly robust and maintenance-free characteristics of the induction motor. In many industrial processes, there is a need for the rapid response of the motor torque against load changes or fast acceleration of the motor speed. Examples are railway drive systems or electric vehicles. With the advancement of modern power electronics, high performance motor drives can be achieved which allows separate flux and torque control of induction motor without using speed sensors, thus greatly enhancing the motor's dynamic performance and reducing the overall cost. These facts attract an investigation into the sensorless motion control of induction motor. The objective of this project is to investigate the induction motor characteristics and develop a high performance DSP-based motor drive for speed tracking using sensorless vector control. The investigation is divided into 3 stages: (i) Construct a DSP-based drive, perform closed-loop speed control under conventional scalar control method and investigate its short comings. (ii) Propose and implement a high performance sensorless vector drive scheme that is suitable for fast speed acceleration and torque changes. This includes: (a) The modeling of the induction motor. (b) The simulation of the driving scheme using Matlab Simulink environment. (iii) Implement the hardware system of the proposed driving scheme and verify its performance. | en_US |
