dcterms.abstract | The purpose of this study is to explore the evolution and development of tourism research field by conducting a content analysis of research topics of four top leading tourism research journals of last ten years. For this purpose, this study collected 2223 refereed articles of the four top leading tourism journals from July 2000 to June 2010. And a research topic category framework with 20 topic categories of previous research is adopted in this study for identifying and classifying the research topics of the refereed articles. And on the purpose of getting the trends of tourism research field, two sub-research-periods are defined in this study. Also, on in order to evaluate the different affections of using different counting methods. Both the absolute and relative counting methods are selected for counting the numbers of refereed articles covered topic categories. The findings of this study presents in the last ten years, the largest numbers of refereed articles covered the research topic of Others, followed by the topic of Psychology and Tourist Behavior and Destination Image and Marketing. Moreover, this study indicates that not all of the topic categories are been covered by all of the journals. There are journals only covered 19 topic categories out of 20 categories. The least covered topic categories are Geography of Tourism. Moreover the different results of the four journals are identified respectively and the affections of using different counting methods are pointed out as well. In this research, the development, the alteration and the situation of the tourism research in last ten years are presented and it gives a clear direction of the future research on content analysis of topic categories of tourism research. | en_US |
