Natural ventilation in dormitoryen_US
GAO Ming is a city of subtropical climate which is located in Guangdong province. The energy consumptions in the residential buildings in this hot-humid city are enormous. Natural ventilation is most useful way for cooling temperature and for supplying fresh air which is increasingly used in residential projects and is getting more attention by people. In this thesis, an actual project which is a dormitory in GAO Ming city was taken into account in order to indicate the better way of using natural ventilation in residential building. There are two influence factors play significant roles in this research including the windows locations, and building orientation. In the study, cooling load calculation and simulations by CFD software were used and each parameter was chosen accurately. The result of the cooling load calculation could indicate the minimize energy consumption orientation of the dormitory and the simulations could find the efficient windows locations for using natural ventilation. The results express that better natural ventilation property can be achieved by setting upper door windows in each unit and located two windows in the both ends of the corridor. The information on the impact of wind resource condition, building orientation and windows locations was seldom found in the former researches. The results of this thesis are expected to be helpful to the designers and researchers when they use the natural ventilation in residential buildings.en_US
