Advanced composites manufactured from cyclic butylenes terephthalate resin with post-processingen_US
The advantages of continuously reinforced thermoplastic composites are overshadowed by the high melt viscosity of the matrix. In-situ polymerization of cyclic oligomer, such as CBT resin, is a promising material for thermoplastic composites. The feasibility of using CBT resin to isothermally produce composites is demonstrated and the resulting matrix and composite properties are characterized. Manufacturing process of the thermoplastic composites with the continuously reinforced CBT resin was experimented in hot-press molding. The processing window was studied of the pCBT composites, and hence the processing route was confirmed by comparing the mechanical properties, fiber content and degree of crystallinity. A more special attention was paid to the mechanical properties of pCBT composites, including flexural properties, tensile properties and drop weight impact test. Additionally, further study of post-processing of manufactured thermoplastics materials is proceeded in this article, which takes the confirmation of parameter as the main task during the experiment. And the post-processing of thermoforming and joining was further designed and researched utilizing the flowing property of CBT resin, which facilitates to the partial melting of the composite plates.en_US
