Abstract: This project aim to investigate the environmental risk factors of fall injury of senior citizens aged 65 and above in Kwai Tsing District. In addition, regression model is simulated to express risk factors and fall injury. Environmental risk factors being collected are: distribution proportion of buildings without elevator in 28 sub-districts, distribution proportion of buildings in different ages, distribution proportion of narrow footpath, distribution proportion of walkway, distribution proportion of steep slopes and road user density. The demographic characteristic being collected is distribution proportion of senior citizens aged 65 and above each district. Methods used in this study are: hypothesis testing, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multivariate regression method. Among these risks factors, proportion distribution of senior citizens aged 65 and above and road population density are negatively correlated with fall injury. Also the correlation coefficient shows that buildings constructed during the period of 1970s and 1980s and before is significantly negative correlated with buildings constructed during the period of 1990s and 2000s, proportion distribution of footpath is significantly positive correlated with proportion of steep slopes each sub-district, proportion distribution of walkway is negative correlated with proportion of steep slopes, road user density is negative correlated with proportion of steep slopes, and road user density is positive correlated with proportion of walkway. In addition, a multivariate linear regression model is simulated based on the risk factors: distribution of senior citizens aged 65 and above and road population density. This study is an application of integration of GIS and public health. Integrating GIS helps recognize the distribution of fall injury for senior citizens in Kwai Tsing District and identify the complex relationships between fall injury and environmental risk factors, demographic characteristics, which offering an insight view of fall injury.
