dc.title | Development of a computerized maintenance information system in a high precision machining factory in China | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | In response to the increasing demand on variety, delivery and quality, manufacturers are turning to high-tech equipment in a flexible manufacturing system as well as adopting advanced material control techniques such as JIT and MRP to minimize set up adjustment time and inventory level. All these are focusing on maintenance to optimize equipment reliability. The principal aim of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) which combines both preventive and predictive techniques is to pursue economic efficiency and profitability by total participation of all employees to improve equipment availability and reliability. The development of Computerized Maintenance Management Information system (CMMIS) aims to optimize maintenance operation and support TPM implementation by providing current and accurate information for instructions as well as decisions. The thesis presents the work undertaken to improve equipment availability and maintenance operational efficiency. The bulk of work includes a review of various maintenance techniques in the improvement of equipment uptime and systems analysis in the development of information system. It also develops a three-phase programe for TPM implementation in a local Chinese precision machining environment and the maintenance information systems analysis based on the Soft Systems Methodology. The expected difficulties and the implementation plan for the introduction of CMMIS are also discussed. | en_US |
