dcterms.abstractThe contribution of land transport emission to air pollution problems, greenhouse effects and heat island effect on Hong Kong roads are significant. It is not only influent the environment, but also cause correlated diseases to threaten life safety of human. Due the recent successful development for large-scale application of zero emission electric buses and application of electric vehicles in Shanghai Expo; Kowloon Motor Bus Co. Ltd in Hong Kong is now imparting gBus² into Hong Kong to conduct trial on Hong Kong roads. This indicates that to there is no time to delay for Hong Kong to adopt this environmentally friendly electric traffic tool. In this study, it verified the relationship between the deterioration of ground level air quality and land transport with justification by field monitoring works at various bus terminals and stops on West Kowloon, East Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, to ans the investigation on the sustainability, limitation and constraint of using electric buses in Hong Kong. Other renewable energy transport operating in other countries were studied for comparison. The monitoring results showed that the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in Kowloon Bay, Kwun Tong, Admiralty and Lam Tin Railway Station Bus Terminal were not meet the HKEPD Air Quality Objective. Moreover, the concentration of nitrogen dioxide in Kowloon Bay and Kwun Tong were higher than 560μg/m³, it would direct effect the lung function of asthma disease. Other monitored pollutants in other monitored bus stops and bus terminals were meet the HKEPD Air Quality Objective, generally would not cause any adverse impact on waiting passengers.en_US
