dcterms.abstract | Globalization provides the possibility of new opportunities to international construction companies. And subcontracting strategy is widely adopted in these international construction projects, due to the subcontractors' risk sharing and specialization in fixed area. The importance of subcontracting strategy has led to the contribution of extensive research efforts to the development of this research discipline. It is essential for the enterprises in a vibrant business environment such as the Chinese international contractors to improve their subcontractor managing level. Chinese contractors have become more active in recent years in the international arena. Nevertheless, there is little research undertaken on managing subcontractor in international construction project. It is the aim of this research to investigate the causes of the communication problem in managing subcontractor in international construction projects, and finally propose workable solutions, measures and methods for the related problem and issue in managing subcontractor, so as to diversify the skills and improve the level of international construction projects management. This research has adopted several research methods, including extensive literature review, case study and a systematic process of practical questionnaire surveys. This study contributes to the development of knowledge of subcontractor management in the discipline of international construction projects. And a set of measures and skills has been developed at last, which can be applied in the international construction projects at a certain level. The limitations of the study include the limited sources of the data collected only from Chinese international contractors and the cases studied are confined to UAE. | en_US |
