Abstract: In recent decades, spatial data quality became one of the most active area in GIS. The principle of spatial data uncertainty has been deeply developed from classical measurement adjustment. Several fundamental principles are issued, and the objective is expanded from point error to objective uncertainty. The dimension is also expanded from 2D to 3D then to ND. In this research study, the development and current research status of spatial data uncertainty has been reviewed. The methods of line element uncertainty evaluation and development of error bands have been reviewed and introduced in detail. Other theories of line element uncertainty quantitative analysis have also been covered. The resent principles and mathematical foundations theories and models have been stated. The principle of adjustment has been reviewed and mathematically reasoned from classical adjustment to generalized adjustment. The principle of error bands and other line uncertainty quantization method have been introduced formula by formula. The resent types of error bands are programming realized and visualize by software Matlab R2007b. The thoughtfulness and analysis of experiment are also given. The practical indexes of line uncertainty evaluation is also done in this study. Several simple methods have been introduce and realized by Wolfram Mathematica 7. Indexes l₁, l₂ and l₃ have been issued experimented. The analyses and discussions are also given in follow.
