dcterms.abstract | To help the new students and visitors get familiar with the campus quickly and find the required places conveniently, the study has designed and developed a mobile system called "Campus Query and Navigation System" based on Android platform with Java, Android SDK, and Google Map API. The application takes PolyU campus as an example. The system provides various services, such as information query, map editing, route navigation, location, etc. Information query enables the users to query the facilities, offices, clinics, stores, accommodations, banks, lecture theatres, faculties and departments, etc. on campus. Information contains the name, address, telephone, pictures, service hours, and the location on map, etc. Map editing allows the users to collect places of interest with name, picture and location. Route navigation has two parts, on campus navigation and off campus navigation. On campus navigation aims at providing optimal path on campus to the users after setting the origin and destination together with a series of pictures and panorama images. Off campus navigation is designed to enable the users to choose the origin and destination off campus and then find the optimal path. The system also provides the location service to find the current location of the user and show on the map. With this system, the users can get interested information and obtain the recommended route anywhere, anytime with a smartphone, which may greatly save their time and facilitate their life and study. In this study, picture series are provided along the route to aid the navigation and there are panorama images available to help the users identify the route and surroundings easily. The application can be extended to any campus. | en_US |
