dcterms.abstract3D visualization has been a hot spot in recent years. As a virtual reality system, virtual campus has been a common application. However, after I did some research on currently applied virtual campus systems, I found many of them have variety shortcomings. So developing a relatively economic and functional virtual campus system is necessary. This research elaborates some theories about virtual reality and virtual campus, studies on several virtual campus systems and analyzes the strengths and weaknesses. I also summarize the common 3D modeling methods and platforms.After comparison, the author chooses SketchUp to be main modeling software and introduce and explain the software and modeling process in details. The system is developed on the base of Google Earth. Building location, first and third perspective, path search and other small functions are designed and realized using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Google provides various APIs, which will not be functional until I write them in appropriate logic. Finally the system achieves the expecting functions. It is proven that web browser based virtual campus system under Google Earth are accessible. And this technology has great potential in the future.en_US
