Abstract: This thesis presents the methodologies for creating a bus route number plate recognition system in Hong Kong. This system can first read the video, and then cut the video into images, later by HOG feature extraction and Ada Boost training to locate the bus route number plate, and keep tracking the bus route number plate as well, then segment the characters on the bus route number plate, finally recognizes each character and displays the result on the screen. This thesis not only explains each step in detail, but also introduces relative principles and operators at the same time. In addition, the thesis provides the best choice of methods in each step for this dissertation, and provides the reason and result compare. The system could show the number of bus route number and track the bus route number plate while displaying the video.
