dc.title | Application of building information modeling on BEAM plus submission in residential projects : a preliminary investigation | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Building contributes large amount of greenhouses gases emission and result in negative environmental impacts. Increase demands in sustainable building rating system increase the needs in digital facilities, transiting traditional design technology to a new innovation-Building Information Modeling (BIM). Two commons sustainable building assessments adopted in Hong Kong include Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) issued by U.S. Green Building Council and Hong Kong Building Environmental Assessment Method (BEAM Plus) issued by Hong Kong BEAM Society. Lots of U.S. researches the integration between BIM and LEED assessment which implies high feasibilities in integrating BIM to BEAM Plus assessment since there are some similarities between LEED and BEAM Plus. However, there is very few studies regarding the integration between BIM and BEAM Plus submission. Therefore, the primary object of this research is to explore an integration model of BIM technology and BEAM Plus rating system to streamline the BEAM Plus Certification process. Firstly, potential BEAM Plus Credits which can be applied with BIM were identified and sorted. Secondly, a conceptual framework of BIM-BEAM Plus application procedures was developed and analyzed based on desktop study of functionalities of Autodesk Revit Architecture and BEAM Plus credits requirements. Next, the framework was verified via two scenarios. The results of this study indicate that there were high feasibilities of all those potential credits assisting with the help of BIM (i.e. Autodesk Revit). This process could streamline the BEAM Plus submission process and facilitate the multi-use of BIM in a construction project. However, the difficulties of this application procedure depend on the project sizes and the magnitude of details of model development. | en_US |
