| dcterms.abstract | Facing continuous conflicts between urban development and restrictive aspects of politics, economy and culture, sustainable strategies have gradually been pursuits and desired goals for many cities in mainland China striving to thrive and prosper. Taizhou is no exception, which is an inland city locating in the central part of Jiangsu Province, among the most densely populated, historically well-known and economically developed regions in the lower reaches of Yangtze Delta and even whole China. Despite quite a good starting point, the other side of the story, nevertheless, is that the relatively galloping city development upholding by unscrupulous urban planning or land development strategies has imposed adverse impacts and harsh stress on scrimpy lands as well as deficient resources, especially at sacrifice of arable land to meet industrial, commercial and residential needs. Land use change and land use intensity hereby should be of concern for local government to wake up and refer to, so that rational and sane policies, decisions and practices may be seek and made to create or maintain a healthy balance between land use change and urban development attaining sustainability. Case study is conducted in Taizhou City, as a typical representative in Central Jiangsu. This dissertation firstly clarify the land use change and sustainable development condition from 2002 to 2010, and then presents a framework to demonstrate if there is certain relationship between land use change and sustainable development in urban area of Taizhou Municipality, what the exact relationship is, and where it lies. Furthermore, with respect to findings, implications are proposed for future city construction and vitalization from perspectives of land use and sustainable development. | en_US |
