Flow rationalization of Shenzhen Qiaoshe Passenger Transport Station during Chunyun perioden_US
The transportation during Spring Festival is also called "Chunyun春運" in pinyin (拼音) phonetic transcription in Chinese, which has become a hot topic in recent years. The huge and concentrated demand has made it a serious problem in mainland China. This project is to study the Shenzhen Qiaoshe Passenger Transport Station (深圳僑社汽車客運站) on how to realize flow rationalization during the Chunyun period. Some literatures on passenger flow, bus flow analysis and improvement have been reviewed in this dissertation. Theory of constraints (TOC) is introduced as the main methodology. It has been proved to be outstandingly effective and got favored by many companies all around the world. Among which, the VAT structure and the Jonah Thinking Process help to analyze problems while the Drum-Buffer-Rope (DBR) is mainly used to synchronize flows. When applying the VAT, thinking process to the analysis of Shenzhen Qiaoshe Passenger Transport Station, the security check, the ticket checking and uploading of the luggage are defined as the constraint processes. As for the solution, DBR is applied in different processes in different ways. Segregation is employed between passengers and luggage, and also between different kinds of passengers. In addition, other processes need to coordinate with the constraint process are considered. For example, the waiting hall is suggested to be divided into zones according to the leaving time of passengers, which would help shape the flow and ensure passengers arrive at the ticket checking points on time. New facilities are suggested to be installed in the station, which would increase the cost in the short term, though, it is anticipated to be paid off in the long run. It is expected that if all the suggestions are taken and executed properly, the Shenzhen Qiaoshe Passenger Transport Station will be able to run more efficiently and effectively, to earn better reputation by providing high-quality service without sacrificing much its profit return now and in the future.en_US
