dc.title | Detection, drift velocity estimation and characteristics analysis of ionospheric disturbance over Hong Kong | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Ionospheric refraction is one of major error sources in GPS positioning. The disturbance in ionosphere could cause fluctuation during radio signal propagation and result to significant error in measurements. To mitigate the influence, this research is to investigate characteristics and movement of low latitude disturbance over Hong Kong based on SatRef GPS monitoring data from 2001 to 2012 and disturbance detection, drift velocity estimation and characteristics analysis are highlighted. The disturbance detection algorithm using RoTI as indicator is designed and detects 6147 disturbances with their presence time, position and size. Based on the similar TEC pattern of detected disturbance from different stations at different time, the drift velocity estimation algorithm is designed according to the model deducted from matching analysis and estimates the drift velocities of 5743 disturbances. From these results, (1) solar cycle and seasonal dependence are found, and it is able to illustrate disturbance number change during equatorial spread F phenomenon by the local time varation; (2) the size measured by the length of intersection is found less than 100 km of latitude/longitude in general cases; (3) the estimated drift velocities are ~120 m/s generally magnetic eastward; (4) the velocity decreases throughout nighttime from ~200 m/s to ~100 m/s; (5) and the latitude dependence of velocity change can illustrate the disturbance movement. | en_US |
