dcterms.abstract | The alignment of a lower-limb prosthesis is critical for amputees to perform effective and comfort walking. Prosthetic alignment is the three-dimensional orientation of the prosthetic socket with respect to the prosthetic foot. Nowadays, it remains to be an iterative and time-consuming task to obtain an optimal alignment mainly based on the prosthetists'experience. Due to the high variability of "optimal alignment" within the acceptable range of amputees, prosthesis may possibly be suboptimal aligned. Amputees may have difficulties in walking, especially during slope locomotion or stair ambulation, even though optimal prosthetic alignment is achieved. For these reasons, an objective alignment procedure based on device measurement and professional instructions of daily activities during rehabilitation process are required . In this study, a portable smart device has been developed the effectiveness to detect suboptimal alignment and terrains has been tested. The system can provide objective parameters for prosthetic alignment and assessment of daily activities on amputees. | en_US |
