Abstract: The Guangzhou New TV Tower (GNTVT), constructed in Guangzhou, China, is a super tall structure with a height of 610m. This tube-in-tube structure comprises a reinforced concrete inner tube and a steel outer tube adopting concrete-filled-tube columns. A sophisticated structural health monitoring (SHM) system consisting of over 600 sensors has been designed and is being implemented by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to GNTVT for both in-construction and in-service real-time monitoring. This paper outlines the literature background of the temperature and strain distribution analysis for the Canton Tower, the introduction of the Canton Tower and the SHM system, the temperature distribution analysis which consists of the data pre-processing, the temperature variation at different facades and different heights (including inner tube and outer tube) using Matlab software, comparison between daily temperature variations of two measure points at monitoring section 121.2m in the outer tube (using Matlab) and the correlation between the temperature and vertical strain of 5 points which are located in 5 different monitoring sections at different heights of the inner tube (using Matlab). Also, this paper will make a conclusion about the details discussed above at the end of the paper.
