dc.title | In-situ energy and environmental performance assessment of CO₂-based demand controlled ventilation | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Air-conditioning system is significant important to the building indoor environment. The performance of its ventilation system, both energy performance and performance, have received increasing concern in last decades. The energy and environmental performance are both closely related to the ventilation rate, in traditional strategy, a series problem arose because of inappropriate ventilation: over-ventilated will cause extra energy consumption of cooling the outdoor air, on the other hand, under-ventilation cannot maintain qualified IAQ. In this way, energy consumption and indoor air quality (IAQ) should compromise in an appropriate strategy: Demand-Controlled-Ventilation (DCV). DCV is a ventilation control strategy in which the outdoor fresh air flow rate is dynamically adjusted according to the occupancy profile of the building, considering all individual zones including the critical zone; CO₂-based DCV refers to the need for ventilation is determined by measurements of CO₂ concentration of the occupied spaces. This most significant advantage of this strategy is achieving energy saving while ensure acceptable IAQ. This CO₂-based DCV strategy is implemented in International Commerce Centre (ICC), a high-rise office building in Hong Kong, the strategy also applied in an independent Intelligent Building Management System (IBMS) and Integration platform (IB manager), which communicates with the main station of Building Management System through a communication protocol and interface. This dissertation mainly evaluates the in-situ energy and environmental performance of ICC when applied CO₂-based DCV strategy, verify its ability of saving energy while maintain acceptable IAQ. The performance of the DCV strategy is evaluated by comparing with that of the fixed outdoor air flow rate control strategy (FO strategy) in terms of the outdoor air flow rate and indoor air CO₂ concentration as well as the energy performance. | en_US |
