Abstract: Hospitals are where patients receive medical treatment, since patients are immune compromised they become more vulnerable to indoor air pollutants and maintaining good indoor air quality in hospitals is of great importance. Assessment of air quality in the hospital is comprised of subjective and objective evaluation. Common pollutants are measured in two dental wards and two technician rooms, simultaneously 60 questionnaires were distributed to workers asking about their response to the indoor environment and the frequency of some sick building syndromes. Quite a few people complain about the air quality, some of the pollutants such as the particulate matter and TVOC exceed the prescriptive value in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS). Significant correlation were found between risk factors and sick building syndromes. These syndromes are due to energy saving in HVAC system and apparently it negatively impact the health, comfort, and productivity of occupants. This paper aims to find out parameters that account for unacceptable perceived indoor air quality and try to give some suggestions to alleviate the situation.
