dcterms.abstractTimes change and so does the way we live. Nowadays, the economic development and international exchanges have given rise to a growing need for bilingual public signs translation, which have been considered being important components of global language and humanity environment of international metropolis. They firmly establish the cities' image, embody the degree of civilization and influence the commercialization of the city under globalization. However, the existing C-E translation versions of public signs in mainland China are far from being satisfactory, which has become a pressing issue in badly need of attention. Under the enlightenment of the German functionalism, this thesis makes an in-depth investigation into the problems existing in the current C-E translation of public signs. Besides illustrate the translation strategies and principles that can be adopted during the translation process, some constructive suggestions will also be given for the further establishment of a systematic mechanism that plays a vital role in the standardization of C-E translation of public signs.en_US
