Application of FBG technology for monitoring strains and displacements of GFRP soil nailingen_US
In this study, the focus is on FBG sensors for measuring strains of GFRP soil nails to prove the advantages of FBG sensors. According to literature review of FBG and GFRP soil nailing, a lab pullout test was performed. Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors, strain gauges, LVDTs and a load cell were used to measure axial strain distributions and pullout force during the testing. After pullout testing and monitoring of strain distributions along a soil nail by the FBG sensors, calculation and comparison of data from Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors and strain gauges have been done. It is found that the FBG sensing technology has a number of advantages, terms of stability and reliability for soil nail monitoring.en_US
