A comparative study of gait biomechanics and plantar pressure with different types of rocker shoesen_US
Background: Rocker bottom shoes are thicker size at the bottom or sole than normal shoes. It has different types such as proximal rocker shoe, negative heel rocker shoe, and double rocker shoe. However, the lower extremity biomechanicaleffects of different types of rocker shoes are still infancy stage than normal shoes. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of rocker shoe lower biomechanics such as angles of knee and ankle, ground reaction forces, and planter pressures.Aims and objectives: To investigate the effect of proximal rocker shoe, negative heel rocker shoe, and double rocker shoe on lower limb biomechanics compared to normal shoes. Also, this study aimed to examine the effect of different types of shoes on reduction of heel and metatarsal pressure Methods: A9 healthy subjects (male-66.7% and female -33.3%)) were recruited in this study. The kinetic and kinematics was collected by using Vicon motion capture analysis system with 8 camera. Knee angles, ankle angles, ground reaction forces were collected from different rocker shoes and normal shoes. In addition, F scan was used to measure the heel peak pressure, and metatarsal peek pressure was collected for 3 different types of rocker shoes with normal shoe (proximal heel, negative heel, and double rocker shoe. Results: The average pressure was calculated in heel area and metatarsal area of the foot. Lowest heel peak plantar pressure was noted on the negative heel types of rocker shoes. High peak pressure was highly reduced by rocker shoes than normal shoes in metatarsal areas of the foot while walking. Maximum ground reaction a force was observed in proximal rocker shoes (99.26{171}28.57). Also, highest knee angles and ankle angles was measured in proximal types of shoes. There was pressure reduction was noted in the rocker types of than normal shoes. However the results of one ANOVA, there is no significant results noted in right and left knee angles [F(3,32)= 1.78, p= 0.16)]. There is a significant results observed between normal and negative heel rocker shoes in plantar pressure in t tests (p =0.02; 0.04).en_US
