Abstract: According to the researches previously, magnetic gears are gaining more and more attentions all over the world, because they can transmit torque or power by coupling of magnetic field, so that they are also called a type of non-contact transmission mechanism. These devices can help to increase the output torque density of gears, so that they can save more energy and improve the quality of our daily life. However, a new structure can get a better torque density. To address these issues, these novel magnetic gears will provide an effective way to have a higher efficiency with less energy consuming. The most important step in designing and analyzing the magnetic gears is to decide the parameters and obtain the characteristic of these novel structures. For simulating the magnetic field of these structures, the finite element method (FEM) is a powerful tool for the numerical simulation of these novel magnetic gears. Based on the above program, a novel magnetic gear which can get a higher torque density compared with the conventional structure of the same size is presented, and general method to design is both presented. The FEM, which can be used readily and conveniently in analyzing the novel magnetic gear structures, is used simulating the characteristic of these novel structures. The experiment result of the presented configuration shows that this novel structure can get a higher torque compared with the conventional one.
