dc.title | Design of a quality analysis system for fuel injection spray by image processing | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | This dissertation presents a design of an injection spray quality analysis system for fuel injectors based on image processing techniques. Different from traditional methods, an automatic method for evaluating fuel injection spray can save time and make more detailed investigation more on the spray characteristics of an injector. The parameters which are important for grading an injector including spray penetration and the area the spray occupies. Human observation is only method for such evaluation in a laboratory or workshop without professional quality analysis equipment. The main component of the designed quality analysis system is an injection test platform which contains a fuel supply system, an electronic control unit (ECU), a CCD camera, and an injector to be tested. Using MATLAB, we develop a program to analyze the spay quality of injectors. The tested injector will be classified as one of three quality levels: first grade, acceptable grade and unacceptable grade. By using image pre-processing techniques and an image similarity measure against a standard spray image, the first round quality evaluation is carried out. An injection spray image that is obviously different from the standard image will be regarded as unacceptable grade and not be considered in the next round of evaluation. By using image morphological processing techniques such as erosion and dilation operations, two parameters of spray are computed: spray penetration and the area the spray occupies. These parameters are important indicators for spray quality. We can then analyze the spay quality and evaluate the performance of injection mathematically Experimental results show the system can detect unacceptable grade product reliably and more parameters should be investigated to classify the first and acceptable grades. | en_US |
