dc.title | A review study on fire safety provisions of road tunnels in Hong Kong | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | The first vehicular road tunnel built in Hong Kong is the Lion Rock Tunnel in 1968. Forty-five years after the opening of Lion Rock Tunnel, sixteen tunnels have been built. However, all these tunnels may have different fire safety requirements. Not only in Hong Kong, but also in other countries, the level of sufficient fire safety in tunnel has been questioned by researchers without a satisfactory answer. To fine-tuning the existing prescriptive requirement in Hong Kong, global prescriptive requirements are reviewed in this study. Since the fundamental elements of existing tunnels have been built, room for immediate updating fire service installation is limited. Thus, possible interim remedial measures during the transition period are also investigated in the study. Case study on the Lion Rock Tunnel would be provided to illustrate the pressing need for improvement and possible suggested enhancements. | en_US |
