dcterms.abstract | Aim: The aim of the study was to explore the needs of HCC patients during treatment in Hong Kong. Design: It was a cross-sectional descriptive study with quantitative design was conducted using a comprehensive needs assessment tool (CNAT).Two hundred patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and 41 nurses working in study units in an acute hospital were recruited. Result: In HCC patients' group, the domain of healthcare staff needs ranked the first, followed by needs of information, healthcare facilities and services, physical symptoms, social and religious/spiritual support, psychological problems and practical support. Both patients' and nurses' groups considered needs of healthcare staff and information were the most important during treatment for HCC. Nurses overestimated patients' needs in physical, psychological, social and religious/spiritual support and practical support domains. Conclusion: Needs of healthcare staff and information was considered as the most important for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma during treatment in Hong Kong. Specific interventions should be developed in order to meet patients' needs. Nurses should also communicate with patients to eliminate the discrepancies between needs' perceptions. | en_US |
