Research and development of direct-drive electric generators for wind power generationen_US
Wind power, is a kind of free and renewable energy. Compared with electricity generation by other conventional methods, the benefits of using wind power are more significant. The use of it is an attractive solution to reduce carbon emission. However, the further development of wind power is likely to be constrained by the design of the wind power generation system. Since the improvement of permanent magnet material and power electronic devices, the direct-drive permanent magnetic synchronous machine without mechanical problems of gear-box seems to get more and more attention. Thus, this dissertation will focus on analyzing direct-drive permanent magnet synchronous generator(DD-PMSG). This dissertation is to propose two megawatt DD-PMSGs which used in the wind power generation and optimize them. The initial model is firstly built based on literature review and personal analysis. Then the optimized model is designed with the aim of maximizing the output power while minimizing the loss by using Differential Evolution Algorithm (DEA). After that, a new configuration is proposed and optimized by the same method. The new model has a great output power. Moreover, a quantitative comparison is given in this dissertation to compare the performance of the two different model. In this dissertation, the proposed design with megawatt PMSG is successfully built and the optimized models have great improvement to the initial one. Hence the objectives of the project are met successfully.en_US
