Abstract: | In order to avoid the occurrence of near misses to decrease the rate of industrial accidents and even fatalities, improving construction safety performance on site is vital and necessary to the construction industry. Unsafe behavior is one of the factors easier to cause near misses, meanwhile PPE misuse behavior is the most dangerous behavior on construction sites. This study is to supervise the safety helmet misuse behavior based on the Helmets Use Supervision System (HUSS) to improve the construction safety performance on construction sites. This study adopted experiment as the research methodology to test the feasibility and practicability of HUSS in the real construction project, and combined with interview to explore the status quo of construction performance (e.g. types of unsafe behaviors, factors leading to misusing PPE and existing construction safety performance measures) and the future developing direction of HUSS. Meanwhile, comparison with the result of the experiment and interviews concluded the relationship between helmets misuse behaviors and effecting factors, such as working experience and so on. In the next stage of research, larger sample size of both experiment and interviews is expected to explore more accurate result in the future. |
