|Abstract:||The Pearl River Delta (PRD) region, as one of the most developed areas in China, is suffering from server air pollution. To evaluating the pollution level, Aerosol Optical Thickness (AOT) can be used. The higher value of AOT means higher pollution level. HJ-1 satellites have the responsibility of environmental monitoring and disaster prediction is used to the AOT retrieval in this research. The method used in this research is modified from Dense Dark Vegetation (DDV) algorithm, which is most common used method for aerosol retrieval. Compared with MODIS data, HJ-1 data do not have 2.1£gm shortwave infra-red band, which brings some difficulties to retrieve AOT using HJ-1 data. Previous study has provided the method to solve the problem using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI)and the relation between reflectance of blue band and red band. 6S radiation transfer model will be selected to build Look Up Table (LUT), which can provide the relationship between AOT and atmospheric parameters. In the process of building LUT, Optical Properties of Aerosols and Clouds (OPAC) will be used to refining the aerosol type and improve the accuracy of LUT. AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) ground-based sunphotometer data and MODIS Level 2 product MOD04 data are used as the validation data. The comparison results show that the method using OPAC to refining aerosol type for AOT retrieval is feasible.|
