Abstract: This dissertation is mainly illustrates the additional effect of lightning strikes on power generation system of BIPV by using numerical simulation method. In the progress of research the unique software called EMTP is used from which the modelling of BIPV system could be made and also the phenomenon of lightning strikes on different parts of BIPV system could be simulated. For normal BIPV system, because the PV panels, inverters and some other components of outside power generation system are connected to indoor electrical power distribution system through transmission line, thus when the lightning happens and strikes on PV panels or inverter, the surge current could transmitted from PV panels to indoor electrical installations, and thus such installations would eventually be damaged, by using EMTP software the result of how much surge current pass through the appliances could be generate. Since such factors like the types and location of lightning, the number and position of arresters that could have an influence on the surge current transmission, the simulation procedure would be separated into several cases, and by comparing the simulation result of each cases with the IEEE-Standard, the judgement of whether such factors could help to control the surge current transmission to a safety level is made..The whole article is separated into several proportions, the introduction and literature review sections which mainly illustrate the composition of BIPV system , and methods of lightning-protection would firstly be presented, the methodology part is primarily showing the relative parameters of equipment and lightning, and also presents the classification of different cases which would be implement in the simulation, finally by analysis the simulation results, the overall conclusion is made which mainly illustrate the outcome of simulation, the shortage of the EMTP software and also the further work of lightning protection of BIPV system.
