| dcterms.abstract | The Internet is a veritable bouillabaisse for finding information, with huge and outrageously expanding pot. Clinical textbooks may be useful for a general orientation to the topic, but not quantitative enough for setting evidence-based clinical policy or applying to individual patients. Usually, textbooks lack the space to include detailed quantitative information. Thus, they are not a good first choice for evidence searches. The dissertation investigates various ways how the Internet can assist the current operations of hospital libraries. The study also addresses current difficulties in information access for medical professionals. In addition, it explores future developments of applying the Internet for fast and accurate information delivery to medical professionals. Furthermore, a model of deploying the Internet for various useful Web sites and free access to clinical computerised literature database has been devised. Search strategies are designed to assist medical professionals to perform systematic searching. A group of medical professionals were invited to perform searches using this model. Feedback were good and some consultants offered to contribute their collections to add on the model. With the use of the Internet, fast and up-to-date information can be obtained without going through huge piles of clinical journals and spending time working on computerised literature searches in various medical databases. Since time is always a critical element for medical professionals, clinical information should be delivered in an efficient and effective manner. | en_US |
