| dcterms.abstract | Based on previous studies of intertextuality in legal writing. Theories of language used in the court and in the legal profession are well-established. Most of the studies seek to find how intertextuality and interdiscursivity effect legal proceedings. However, this paper will be using Linguistic Adaptation Theory (LAT) from Verschueren in legal judgments in Hong Kong to review Linguistic Adaptation Theory in legal documents. This paper will also further Bhatia's study paper on intertextuality in legal discourse and try to further investigate on intertextuality in legal discourse in Hong Kong. Also, this paper will seek to find a new aspect of intertextuality and interdiscursivity in legal discourse to build up effectivity in legal language studies. With the theory of intertextuality and interdiscursivity, the objective of this paper is expected to explain what are the linguistic phenomena in the legal industry. Also, the verbal intertextuality will also be investigated in this paper. Most of the witnesses, defendants, plaintiffs and enforcement agencies. Using court records and legal judgment which would be obtained from the judiciary website. The study involves both quantitative and qualitative analysis following current theories of intertextuality and interdiscursivity. | en_US |
