dcterms.abstractBioaerosols are important contaminant in indoor environment and related to various diseases caused by bacterial infection. The efficacy of ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) for air disinfection has been proved. In order to investigate the performance of UVGI for air disinfection, a chamber experiment was conducted in this project. Micrococcus luteus was used as the bacterial indicator to simulate bioaerosols. Several parameters that may influence the effectiveness of bacterial inactivation were studied, including air velocity (retention time), UV intensity and the utilization of reflective material (aluminum foil). The experimental result showed that the disinfection rate achieved 99.72% when the air velocity decreased from 4m/s to 2m/s, UV intensity increasing from 10.8W/m2 to 32.4W/m2 and used aluminum foil as supplement. Moreover, UV susceptibility constant of M. luteus could be affected by the experiment condition, the value was higher when applied aluminum foil.en_US
