dcterms.abstractFatigue cracking is a major distress type in the flexible pavement performance. Nowadays, the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) is widely used in the world as the one of important pavement design methods. The more accurate predicted performance obtained from the MEPDG software, the more popular and credible used for the pavement designers or other significant analysis, such as sensitivity of each parameter on early failure performance. As the increasing different kinds of data (includes material, traffic, climate characteristics and performance monitoring data) were recorded or added daily into the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) database for more several decades, this primary objective of dissertation is to make a comparison study between measured fatigue cracking and predicted performance, in order to check whether the Fatigue-Cracking models should be calibrated and validated nationally one more time in the further study and obtain more suitable parameters, formulas and predictions. This research focuses on the SPS-1 experiment in LTPP program. Forty-four representative pavement sections from in total of one hundred and twenty sections for ten states were selected finally. Then, the obtained predicted distresses were compared with the measured distresses to assess for errors and goodness of fit. The analysis of plot predicted versus measured showed that although all predicted performances and the actual alligator cracking for most of sections share a similar trend: increase in wave, the errors still exhibited unideal and unoptimistic results, which also means the trend rate is much different from each other. The primary conclusion underlined that for all simulated states, this research verifies the nationally equation in MEDPG, is not accurate for each state. Finally, this dissertation recommends the national calibration based on the MEPDG again is reasonable and necessary. In addition, every state has individual errors and regular, and thus the fatigue equation could be considered local calibration to cater for every state.en_US
