The effects of justice and governance on relationship commitmenten_US
In this thesis, I argue that contractual and relational governance can engender supplier satisfaction and relationship commitment in the buyer-supplier relationship when the supplier perceives distributive or procedural justice. I collect 80 valid responses from senior executives of manufacturers from mainland China. To analyze my collected data, I develop a research model and test it using the partial least squares method. The research findings reveal that both distributive and procedural justice fully mediate the effects of contractual and procedural governance on supplier satisfaction. Distributive justice partially mediates the effect of contractual and relational governance on relationship commitment, whereas procedural justice does not mediate the effect of contractual and relational governance on relationship commitment. The findings indicate that contractual governance engenders supplier satisfaction if the supplier perceives distributive or procedural justice. In addition, suppliers commit to their relationships with buyers partly because they perceive distributive justice under a contractual governance strategy. The findings of this study strongly imply that buyers who want to establish a stable relationship with their suppliers should bear in mind that fairness in the award allocation process is the key component in their governance strategies.en_US
