Abstract: In China, the energy consumption caused by urban heat island and the increase of urban residents' morbidity have resulted in huge waste of resources and economic loss. Parks, one of the most popular public places, are the main cooling sites in cities. There are a large number of studies focusing on the factors influencing park cooling ability, but it is still not clear how the surrounding building height, surrounding building spacing, windward side and leeward side building height, park area or park aspect ratio (the ratio between the length of the park and the width of the park) affect the park cooling ability and wind comfort inside the park. This study used the control variable method to study and CFD to simulate. Through the analysis of the results of the CFD simulation, it was found that with the increasing building height and building spacing, the wind speed was on the rise which contributed larger wind comfort areas inside the park. In addition, the higher the windward side and leeward side buildings caused higher wind velocity, but the wind comfort area lowest appeared when the building height at windward side and leeward side were 112.644m, the same as the other surrounding buildings. Moreover, as the growth of park area and the reduction of park aspect ratio (the ratio between the length of the park and the width of the park), the wind velocity increased and so does the wind comfort area. This study also found that the park cooling ability increased with the wind velocity increasing because of the lower air temperature. In conclusion, this study can provide some suggestions for urban planning.
