Retro-commissioning for chilling system in Hong Kong's hospitalen_US
The global warming is exacerbated as a serious global environmental issue during many aged buildings are operated in inefficiency operation in Hong Kong, while the highest amount of energy is consumed by the air-conditioning system. The purpose of this study is to study the possible amount of energy saving of chilling system by using retro-commissioning, which is a possible process to increase building services system efficiency. There are two Hong Kong hospitals were experimented to identify the suitable procedure and possible amount of energy saving of using retro-commissioning. Then, the computer software is developed which can be simply the energy saving estimation procedures for other buildings. The experiment is focused on chilling system performance before and after retrofitting, which include system operation data collection, adjustment, analysis and comparison by mathematical calculations. As the result, the building energy consumption is reduced when adopting retro-commissioning. For the experimented hospitals, the energy consumption is reduced 15.5% and 28% and reduced 23.9% and 42.4% with chilling system optimization control, respectively. Base on the finding of this study, it can be concluded that the retro-commissioning is a process to reduce energy consumption in buildings to fight for global warming. For the future study and development of retro-commissioning, the operation data size can be larger and accuracy, also cover with different types of building and other building services system.en_US
