Abstract: Nowadays, the regulations of Fire Safety are basically prescript. The main security goal is to protect the lives of the general public by completely evacuating passengers. Although there are laws in the Hong Kong Fire Services Department relating to Firestops for fireproof structures and curtain wall structures are not yet ready to ensure standards and test methods for the detailed fire safety functions of all buildings, including tall building. This is due to the fact that measurement methods and standards to quantitatively assess the vertical spread of flames in building wall which do not exist. In this study, simulations were designed and executed at a reference building enclosure with different wind velocity by using computational simulation programs (PyroSim). Measure the temperature distribution inside the compartment and the height of the facade flame to find out how its behavior changes. The fire simulation experiment was carried out in a full-size model, including a 5 m (L) x 10 m (W) x 4 m (H) compartment, which has one 2 m height window in order to observe the fire from the window overflow along the different wind speed. Then through the analysis to get the external wall near the smoke temperature. In addition, use the results to compare the different sizes of balconies in the same case separately. The results show that in the absence of wind, when the outstretched length of the balcony is 0.8 m, the effective barrier opening overflows the fire plume and spreads vertically. When the external wind velocity is 1 m/s, the wind direction is diagonally upward, when the wind speed is 6 m/s, the wind direction is horizontal blow. These conclusions provide a reference for the fire protection of the building.
