Abstract: | With the global development of information technology, Building Information Modelling (BIM), a concept with digital information representations to facilitate building projects through its entire life cycle, has become a general trend in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. BIM can be a revolutionary technological development, particularly for building construction processes, which can significantly improve construction projects' efficiency, reduce risks, and produce high economic benefits. However, specifically for current BIM education, it is still at its early development stage, and there is a shortage of BIM technical talents in the industry while they are in urgent need with BIM-enabled construction projects. Thus, colleges and universities play an essential role in the training of BIM-related concepts and further adopt such digital technology to perform application-oriented teaching activities. This study explores blending BIM concepts and tools for teaching construction technology and management (CT/CM) knowledge in building and real estate undergraduate programs. It takes the BIM-based teaching aids implementation as the research subject and comprehensively evaluates them compared to different conventional teaching approaches. This research aims to explore the effect of using BIM Technology to assist teaching in construction-related courses. Based on BIM technology, this study produced the construction progress video of a project. It explained the related content of the construction schedule by showing the dynamic construction progress simulation process. The video combines the building BIM model established by the software of Revit with the construction schedule established by the project and then uses Autodesk Navisworks to demonstrate the construction process of the building dynamically. Using Navisworks software to develop the corresponding 4D progress simulation model, and finally, get the demonstration video of construction progress simulation. After playing the video in the classroom, the questionnaire will be sent out to collect students' feedback and opinions on BIM teaching. The results of the questionnaire will be used to improve the BIM-based teaching module. At the end of the paper, it will provide suggestions for combining BIM Technology and course teaching. |
